Areas of work

Our practices

Your training contract will expose you to as many areas of our work as possible, helping you to make well-informed decisions about your future career.

Our practice areas are organised into five practice groups:

  • Corporate
  • Finance
  • Government Regulatory
  • Intellectual Property
  • Litigation, Arbitration and Employment.

During your training contract you will move around the firm every six months, working in a different practice area – or ‘seat’ – each time. This breadth of experience will prove invaluable when it’s time for you to select your areas of specialism as a qualified lawyer.

When you join, we will ask you whether any practice areas are of particular interest. We’ll then work with you to plan your seats according to your preferences, the Law Society’s requirements and the range of places available in different practice areas and secondments.

Help and advice

A member of the Trainee Development team will provide guidance and advice throughout your training contract. Midway through your first seat, they will ask where you would like to sit in seats two, three and four. They will then create a seat plan for you.

Many graduates have no clear practice area preferences when they join, so the breadth of seats on offer here can be particularly helpful. We will provide information to help you decide which practice areas might interest you most, and point you in the direction of associates and partners who can talk to you about their practice.
