Pre-qualification

Pre-qualification: Training Contract

Our two-year training contract is split into four six-month periods. As a trainee, you will move around the firm during this time, with each six-month period known as a ‘seat’.

Induction

Your formal training starts with a two-week induction programme. You will learn critical research skills, including how to use the variety of resources and facilities available here. By the end of your induction you will be ready to start your first seat.

Your seats

We have a wide range of practice areas for trainees to choose from. We will help you make informed decisions about the areas of work you’ll experience during the training contract. Read the ‘Areas of work’ section of this site for more information on the breadth of practice areas available to you, and how our trainees select their seats. You’ll have an opportunity to do a client or international secondment in your third or fourth seat.

Supervision

We believe training plays a vital role in making Hogan Lovells one of the world’s leading law firms. That’s why partners remain closely involved in the training process, sharing their skills and experience with you. Every partner or senior associate who oversees a graduate receives a tailored programme of training to ensure they can coach, motivate and delegate effectively, so you benefit from superb management and receive the highest standard of supervision. You will also benefit from the counsel of a mentor partner.

Technology and training options

Technology has an important role to play. One of our key technologies is TransAct. This virtual simulation of a global corporate transaction will expose you to the global nature of our work. Other online training courses are also available.
