Vacation schemes

Our practices

We run two summer vacation schemes for penultimate year law students, a winter scheme for final year non-law students and graduates, and a one-week spring scheme for first year law students each year.

Summer vacation scheme

Our summer vacation schemes are open to penultimate year law students. Selection is based on your application form, your performance at interview and the results of a critical thinking test.

Obtain a place on the scheme and you will gain invaluable insight into life and work inside a global legal practice. Your time will be spent within three different practice areas, gaining a wide range of insights and experience. For example, you will:

  • be involved in real work with real clients, in much the same way as our trainees are. This will involve drafting, attending meetings, conducting legal research and, where possible, attending court.
  • be able to find out about Hogan Lovells broad range of practice areas by attending lunchtime talks and workshops.
  • learn how to run a meeting.
  • have the opportunity to attend a corporate workshop and an advocacy workshop.
  • receive training in presentation skills and undertake a presentation project, working with other vacation students.
  • participate in a variety of social events, meeting trainee solicitors, lawyers and partners.
  • be paid £300 per week.

Dates

Our summer 2013 schemes will take place on the following dates:

  • 24 June – 12 July 2013
  • 15 July – 2 August 2013

Applications for these schemes opened on 1 October 2012 and closed on 18 January 2013. We review applications for our summer schemes on a rolling basis, and do not wait until after the application deadline to offer successful applicants. We will be accepting applications for the 2014 summer vacation scheme from 1 October 2013.

Winter vacation scheme

Our 2012 winter vacation scheme was held from 10 -21 December 2012 and is open to final year non-law students and graduates. Selection is based on your application form, your performance at interview and the results of a critical thinking test.

The scheme is designed to give final year non-law students and graduates an insight into the life and work inside a global legal practice. Your time will be spent within two different practice areas, and you will also take part in a range of workshops and social events. You will also have the opportunity to meet trainee solicitors, lawyers and partners and will be paid £300 per week.

Applications opened on 1 October 2012 and closed on 2 November 2012. We review applications for our winter schemes on a rolling basis, and do not wait until after the application deadline to offer successful applicants. We will be accepting applications for the 2013 winter vacation scheme from 1 October 2013.

Spring vacation scheme

Our one-week spring vacation scheme is designed to give first year law students an insight into commercial law and working in a global legal practice. The week will involve workshops, case studies and the opportunity to work-shadow some of our trainee solicitors.

Selection is based on your application form and the results of an online critical thinking test.

Our 2013 scheme will take place from 8 – 12 April 2013. Applications opened on 1 October 2012 and closed on 15 February 2013. All places on the spring vacation scheme are offered after the application deadline.
