Barclays case study

Barclays is a major global financial services provider engaged in retail and commercial banking, credit cards, investment banking, wealth management and investment management services.
Barclays operates a commercial, energetic and fast-moving business and it expects both its in-house lawyers and external counsel to be fully attuned to this culture. Our work for Barclays extends across most of our offices and all of our practice areas with a particular focus on litigation, banking, corporate and retail financial services work. Managing a relationship this broad and complex is challenging but immensely rewarding.
Recent work includes:
- Advising Barclays on the acquisition of Citibank’s Portuguese and Italian credit card businesses.
- Acting in relation to a high volume of claims brought by consumers against Barclays who asserted that their credit agreements were unenforceable because of various alleged breaches of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
- Successfully defending Barclays in the South African apartheid litigation, a class action in the US federal courts.
