Barclays case study

Barclays

Barclays is a major global financial services provider engaged in retail and business banking, credit and debit cards, payments, corporate and investment banking and wealth and investment management services.

Barclays operates a commercial, energetic and fast-moving business and it expects both its in-house lawyers and external counsel to be fully attuned to this culture. Our work for Barclays extends across all our practice areas with a particular focus on litigation, banking, corporate and retail financial services work and 27 of our offices internationally. Managing a relationship of this scale is challenging but rewarding.

Recent work includes:

  • Defending Barclays subsidiaries in Switzerland, Spain and Jersey against two sets of claims in New York, each seeking recovery of tens of millions of US dollars, in matters arising out of the collapse of Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities LLC, the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
  • Advising Barclays as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners on the £120 million acquisition by PhotoBox of Moonpig.com.
  • Advising Barclays Bank, S.A., as lead manager, subscriber and financial agent, in connection with the issuance of asset backed securitization bonds for an amount of €1.4 billion.
