Work Experience

Take your first step into law and discover how we do it differently at Hogan Lovells

Everyone should have access to a career in law, so our work experience programmes offer opportunities to people from a variety of backgrounds. We run two programmes, each with a different partner: our bespoke Ladder to Law programme which we run in partnership with Rare Recruitment; and the Sutton Trust’s Pathways to Law programme.

What we offer

Ladder to Law

Hogan Lovells runs the Ladder to Law programme in partnership with Rare, a diversity specialist.

Ladder to Law is a development programme for Black African and Caribbean Year 12 students (including students of mixed race with a black heritage) wishing to pursue a career in commercial law.

The development programme will stretch across Years 12 and 13, and will include mentoring from Hogan Lovells lawyers, networking opportunities and commercial awareness exercises. Rare will offer students advice and support with applying to university and writing their UCAS applications.

At the end of Year 13, students will also take part in a work experience programme from Hogan Lovells. Students will also receive support to help them make competitive applications to first-year opportunities at Hogan Lovells once they begin university.

What we offer

Pathway to Law

In partnership with the Sutton Trust, we also run Pathways to Law during the February half-term break each year.

This involves a week’s work experience at the firm with panel discussions, corporate case studies, commercial awareness exercises, skills sessions and networking opportunities tailored to the 20 year 12 students who join us.
